African Development Bank completes inaugural Moroccan dirham bond issuance of MAD 1 billion, strengthening local currency financing in Africa

The African Development Bank has successfully completed its first bond issuance in Moroccan dirhams, totalling one billion dirhams. This inaugural issue, which matures in seven years and carries a floating interest rate, is part of the Bank's strategy to diversify its financing offerings in Morocco. The transaction, a private placement with qualified investors, is seen as a step towards developing local currency financing capabilities, with the Bank considering establishing a dedicated dirham treasury portfolio. The completion of this transaction is a result of close collaboration between the Bank, Moroccan authorities, and local financial market participants, and is part of the Bank's broader strategy to support the gradual development of local currency financing in Morocco.
